Founded in 1897 in Syracuse, New York, Crouse-Hinds Electric Company specialised in electrical fittings, lighting, and conduit systems. It became known for durable, high-quality industrial electrical products.

In the 1920s, the company entered the traffic control industry, manufacturing signals, controllers, and accessories. Their cast-iron traffic signals became widely used in American cities. Around this time, the company shortened its name to Crouse-Hinds Company.

In 1981, Cooper Industries acquired Crouse-Hinds, selling off the traffic signal division and ending its role in traffic control. The company remained a leader in industrial electrical solutions.

Eaton Corporation acquired Cooper Industries, including Crouse-Hinds, in 2012. Today, Crouse-Hinds specialises in hazardous location electrical products, maintaining its strong industry presence.
